A Tribute To The Salesians
by Michael McKenna (Blaisdon Hall)
My good friend, Paul Barnes,
Coordinator of the Association of Salesian Cooperators, on returning
‘Blaisdon - Memories of a Country Parish’ asked if he could take this
photograph and I readily agreed. It was a very blustery day which caused the
few remaining white hairs to run riot. Paul was thrilled to read so much about
the Salesian presence in the village and intends to buy a copy.
It is a book, along with two others - i.e. ‘Recollections of Blaisdon Hall 1935-1995 and Mike O’Brien’s 'Intimations' which will be passed on to my seven grandchildren and hopefully their own All three books have re-awakened my consciousness of the debt I owe to the Salesian Fathers for their invaluable and powerful influence albeit, having lain dormant for so many years of my life
Michael’s poem ‘The Brotherhood’ brilliantly encapsulates the enormity of the benefit of leaving the merciless Sisters of Charity and entering the enlightened, caring and loving world of the Salesians. In my opinion members of our Association should never cease to thank God and St. John Bosco for "Being there for Us" when we were in dire need of love.and guidance. It was so generously given.
