Message: John-Hello! Thanks for taking this query on board. Yes: I do

know about the Blaisdon Recollections CD compiled by Terry O'Neill and this was sent to me. It's exceptionally evocative and illustrated with many photographs taken over 75 years. My take on Blaisdon recalls not only Salesian School life & its influences but also takes in aspects of Blaisdon village life. I was more fortunate than most old boys in that after completing school from 1952-1955 I worked on Stud Farm - chief pigman - from 1955-1961. I moved from there to Belgium to work in a TB Sanatorium in the Ardennes close to the German border. All the best while awaiting developments.

Message: Dear Tony Brady, It is good to hear from you and learn of your wishes to promote the excellent work of the Salesians who did so much for young boys at Blaisdon. I look forward to your completion of your Book 2. I will seek out answers to your queries and let you know what there is that might be helpful to you. Do you have the Recollections of Blaisdon Hall CD that was available at the 70th Reunion last August? You need to have Microsoft Publisher to be able to open and read/print it. With best wishes, John

Message: I have recollections from conversations with my late father that he attended a Saleasian college either in Gloucester or Cheltenham in about1940's - 1950's. His name was Edward Francis O'Sullivan. He would have probably had a Liverpool accent in those days even at school. Any information would be most appreciated as I know little about my father and it would help me enormously with my family tree. Many thanks. John.

I wonder if you could put me in touch with anyone who has photographs of Blaisdon Hall, or any books on the Hall. It is getting harder by the year to convince my grandchildren of my hard life at the hall.Going down to the farm, or playing football on one of their three pitches, then I would go back and decorate the ceilings in the house, still someone had to do it. Best wishes R.P.

Message: I was very happy to discover this "guestbook" reading the messages from former Blaisdon pupils literally brought tears to my eyes. I attended Blaisdon from 53-54 and my surname at the time was Meissl. I have lived in the United States for over thirty years and reside in Los Angeles California. I support the Salesians here in the US. My relatively short time at Blaisdon was the ONLY bright and happy time of my childhood. The kindness and caring shown me at Blaisdon has acted as a beacon of light to me throughout my life. There aren't words to express my gratitude. I'm not sure whether anyone would remember me. But I would be happy to hear from anyone. I'm planning a trip to the UK sometime this year. A blessing to you all. Peter

Message: I would like to say how much i enjoyed attending the old boys reunion at Blaisdon this year. This was my first reunion. Many memories were revisited some humourous some sad but taken all round well worth the visit. Wonderful to meet so many jolly people who came upt he hard way and so many of them seem to have done well in life. I hope to return another year for another visit and to see perhaps more old faces from my time at the Hall. What a lovely village Blaisdon is and it has not changed a bit since I left there in 1948. It is a long way for us to travel from New Zealand but it was well worth the expense and the time. My best wishes to all those chaps I had time to chat with and the many who were not there some due I guess to attrition. Prof Dr Alastair Bourne.

Message: This is to confirm that the Service for Kevin Cummins will take place at Pantasath Church near Holywell North Wales on Tuesday 14th January at 1pm with internment after the service in the Family Grave. Refreshments will be available after the internment. Mike O'Brien has wrote this great poem in memory of Kevin. Goodbye Kevin Goodbye You lived a life that was rich Giving more than you ever received And your voice among us is missed More than we might have believed. Goodbye Kevin Goodbye The stories you told, the places you went You would share with us Old Boys, Giving hours of time and think it well spent Which we remember as always a joy. Goodbye Kevin Goodbye So Goodbye Kevin Goodbye Your voice may be quiet but your spirit survives And the Lads from Blaisdon will always recall A sensitive soul who kept principles alive You gave it your best and were an example to all So Goodbye Kevin Goodbye This sums up the Blaisdon Brotherhood. Message: You will have seen the information from John Ward regarding Edna Calder. Having now spoken to Charlie Calder I would like to say that althrough Edna had been in pain and ill for a number of years , she always put on a brave face and they would make you so welcome if you visited them. Edna confined to her wheelchir, would call Charlie her Saint the way he cared for and looked after herthroughout her ilness. She loved to visit Lourds and Charlie had booked and arranged to take her there next week, but had to cancel the trip when she became too ill to travel. Charlie would arrange and bring Edna to the Blaisdon reunions which she enjoyed so much, we will all miss Her company. Edna would be pleased to know that many of the Blaisdon Old Boys and friends will be arranging for a Mass and Prayers to be said in their local Parishes for Her. Thank you all. May Edna Rest in Peace. Charles W Springett. Blaisdon Old Boy. Blaisdon Past Pupils Assn President.

Message: Hi Folks I left the Hall in 1948 if you are interested you may contact me at the above. I plan to be at the Blaisdon reunion this year. However, I am building a house and trying to sell my old one. I feel the old one is sold but if it falls through I will not be going to England this year. I really don’t want to miss the reunion so lets hope the contract on my old home become unconditional in the near future.  I was in England twice in the last three years and staying with a pal in Wichcoombe not far from the Hall, what a shame I was unaware in both visits that whilst there a reunion took place. Best wishes to all Regards Alastair

Message: Hi again you Blaisdon Old Boys. I received a prose from Tony Brady {from Ireland} and thought you old un's would like, and understand it will bring back memories for many of you air; on the orchard gate a silken sieve sways; a spider tugs it's lair on rusted bars, silvered overnight. Pigstyes sleep; windows double glazed with frost glint back the sun's bright gleam, over a tractor's bonnet a sack has frozen stiff as oaken beam from its pen the bull roars, morning dazed. Up the farm drive on urgent call -diesel fumes hang in the air- Tractor tyre prints in the snow lead ti the village church and from there the road is cleared by Brother Joe 'neath gated Lodge to Blaisdon Hall. Silence; I mix the pigs herd's morning meal, from a wall warm looking cats stare hungry at the steaming swill; the fattest of them gnaws a hare snared that night. When air was still and freezing I woke and heard its dying squeal. Stud Farm Blaisdon 1957 By Tony Brady.

Message: Greetings to all Blaisdon Past Pupils.  After our get together after Easter Mike O'Brien has written a poem which I attach and am sure many of you will appreciate. The Severn Vale lays open to the sky The church sits patiently on the hill Its bells are calling but from some there'll be no reply We talk together under an April sky The church waits patiently upon the hill Behind us the orchard is in bloom Our thoughts for friends and lives gone by.  Befriended by this hamlet long ago; from a common Dickensian horror We thought it paradise when we came And have never ceased to think it so A sadness lightly lays itself around The group of elderly men that stand To pay respects for friends long gone In a silence that is rich with sound We gather around the communal stone And cast a prayer upon the breeze And for a moment the group unites With thoughts of friends no longer alone The Severn Vale is not aware The church has seen it all before But under the trees lays the stone A reminder old friends will always care We shuffle and pause reluctant to return To cars that will bear us on our way =46rom this poignant and bucolic charm =46rom Blaisdon for which which we'll always yearn. Copyright Mike O'Brien April 2002 I believe this sums it all up for what we all feel about Blaisdon. Best wishes to you all. Charles W Springett

Message: Hi Everyone, I feel that I should like to point out Blaisdon all is now a Private House and this should be respected. The owners have had to request people walking their grounds to leave and in some cases have received some abuse in doing so. I do not believe this to have been Salesian Past Pupils but others used to walking the grounds in the past.  Thank for understanding.

Message: It was a great shock to hear of Bro Joe's death. I like so many Blaisdon Old Boys expected him to go on forever. He was an inspiration to all at Blaisdon and will everyone miss him so much.  Terry O'Neill and I managed to see him at Farnborough a number of times and even with his poor eyesight he was always knew who it was as soon as we spoke.  He was a true Salesian and follower of Don Bosco, and will find his reward in heaven with so many who have gone before him. May he Rest In Peace. C.W.S.

Message: Dear Readers, especially Blaisdon Past Pupils, It is with much sadness that I have learned that Brother Joe Carter SDB died today a Frimley Park Hospital. Many of you will no doubt remember Brother Joe chasing around Blaisdon in his tractor as though it was a F1 racing car. Please remember him in your prayers. A very wonderful tribute was received from our ‘Provincial’ who is in Rome for the General Chapter, which I repeat below. John Ward, Vice President, Salesian Past Pupils Federation (GB)

"It was with real sadness that I learned of the death of Bro Joe Carter. I spoke with him on Saturday evening- a few hours before I left for Rome. He had not been well for several days but he appeared

to be recovering so the news of his death came as a complete surprise to me.Fr John Dickson sends his sympathy as do Fr Luc van Looy and the other members of the General Council and the General Chapter. We thank Lord for Bro Joe's life. “May he rest in Peace”. Fr Francis Preston SDB"
